Elephants

Elephants are land mammals so they have live babies instead of eggs (warm blooded). There are three different species of Elephant. The African Bush Elephant, the African Forest Elephant and the Asian/Indian Elephant. The Elephant evolved from the species that perished during the ice age like the Woolly Mammoth. They are the largest land mammal a baby Elephant (calf) weighing 120 kgs approx. The largest Elephant recorded was a male Elephant shot in 1956 weighing 12,000 kgs and it’s height from shoulder to foot was 4.2 m. An average Elephant can live up to 70+ years in the wild and longer in captivity. In the Asian culture Elephants are a symbol of wisdom because of their memory and intelligence. A healthy Elephant has no natural predators but lions will take calves and weak individuals that are slower then the rest of the herd. Although they have no natural predators they are threatened by human poaching. The elephant population once reached the millions but now it stays in between the 470,000-690,000. It is now a protected specie worldwide.

Hi Hannah. My name is Edith. You do like elephants like I do. I love elephants. There like amazing anilmals. I really feel sad for the elephants because there are some hunters that are trying to kill them. I really don’t like it. Do you like any other animals. I like the cheetah because they are the fastest animal on earth. They are really nice animals. Hope you reply back. Bye :)
